Monster Project

My third grader had drawn a snake/dragon creature.

My first time making it, I had trouble balancing it due to my weight being heavier on the head and wings. I also had issues with the wings sticking together even after I had slipped and scored them on, and this was due to the amount of thickness the wings had in comparison to the body. I had to re make after it breaking into pieces due to a poorly done slip and score of the body parts. Second time I had made it so the dragon was resting on a rock for better stability and so it was easy to pick up.

Collaboration with English Class

IMG_7575.jpg

For this Project, we collaborated with the freshmen class and we had to come up with an idea of something to create that resembles a hero in one of the stories/book that the class has read. My freshman and I both liked Of Mice and Men Book, and we agreed that George was a hero in some sense by saving his friend Lennie from being hunted down and beaten. We thought about how Lennie had accidently killed the puppy that he had liked so much and we thought of flowers because before George kills Lennie, he tells George to look at the flowers. we combined those two to create this piece.

The Bust

For the bust I had not previously looked on how to hollow out the bust, so my first attempt had died as we can see in the third photo. I was pleased with the head proportion to the body. When I created my second bust, I felt that I did not have an idea on what the bust should look like. After looking at Pinterest I had saw a Smurf and thought the big nose and the hat would be fun to re-create.

Alebrije

For my Alebrije I chose a Chameleon. For somewhat obvious reasons. I also thought it would be fun to make. I started with the head then the body and used a small hoop tool to carve into the head and stomach so there was not too much clay; so it wouldn't blow up. Then i made a pirate eye patch because the eyes were hard to make the same. So I improvised.

Next Time i think I would try and carve out the clay better, It feels a little rough on the bottom.

Useful Piece/choice project

For the useful piece I chose a earring holder That is two vinyls stuck together. I saw an inspo picture on Pinterest. I slabbed them and then used a bottle to make circle shape. After it dried i painted little branches and flowers on it

I would have changed of how I glazed it, some of the clear glase closed up the earring holes.

Whimsical House

For this project I used pinterest. I really liked the roof of the house and the rings I made to make it look like a tree stump.

I would have made the mouse different, the ear broke off and was not stable. Other than that I enjoyed this

Tea pot/ Organic shape

At first I was really trying to make the tea pot round. It did not end up that way but I still enjoyed the shape of it because It looked like something out of a childhood cartoon I used to watch. I probably will look at a video on how to make the clay round without going on the wheel.

I did not end up firing it because I did not think that I was going to use it but it was still fun to make.

Monster

This is my monster project. I should have painted the eye that was open, I forgot to do that before fired. I enjoyed this project it was fun. It felt similar in making my Chameleon.
